Interview on Art Ladders Podcast

In November, I got to sit down with Valerie Allen and Armin Mersmann of the Art Ladders podcast. As artists themselves, it was intriguing to discuss elements of the documentary with them as it relates to pure artistry, as well as the concepts from the film as it relates to grief.

To that end, Valerie had some touching comments to share about the documentary:

“I just finished watching your film and found it beautifully written and filmed. A visual feast for the eyes and heart. The first minutes were a bit overwhelming and I really related to the part where you filmed the reactions of other people to your grief. Very powerful and I couldn’t help but think of my own family and how precious our time is with them. This is a very timely film as we are going through a period of history where the death numbers are staggering. Starting a conversation and showing ways to process grief can ultimately give relief and comfort.”

During the interview, we discuss:

  1. Turning to art as a child, when it became significant in my life
  2. Looking at grief and art from a historical lens
  3. Staying motivated through 365 days of painting
  4. How we discuss grief in culture.
